Carter's mother, Kemah Carter-Wesley, said her daughter was known for her compassion and generosity.

"She was the most selfless, the most loving, the most kind," Carter-Wesley said.

The significance of her name reflected the person she became, her mother said.

"She was just Love. She embodied it," Carter-Wesley said.

According to New Jersey State Police, Carter was riding in the passenger seat of a BMW, which was being driven by her friend, Toledo.

"Tomorrow is not promised, and because it's not promised, you seize the moment now and do the best you can and leave a mark. Love left a mark," Wesley said.
